The Los Angeles Chargers got some devastating news after the Fourth of July weekend when new running back Najee Harris, whom the franchise acquired in free agency, injured his eye in a fireworks-related accident.
Now, the injury is confirmed as leading the star running back to miss critical time with the rest of the team when training camp gets underway, according to one prominent insider.
“Chargers GM Joe Hortiz said Najee Harris (eye) will likely begin training camp on NFI. Harris is expected to report to The Bolt later today, per Hortiz. Harris has been receiving treatment from doctors at Stanford,” reported The Athletic’s Daniel Popper on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to the awful news on social media.
“Najee just lost his job. Hampton is gonna take over now that he’s given the chance to start and Harris will be left behind,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“The start of Omarion Hampton taking the lead in the backfield and never giving it back,” another fan added.
“JPP’s himself… what a moron, pretty sure he can get cut for this without seeing a dime (unless he had a clause in his contract, but I doubt it),” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Harris’ vision in the backfield is forever altered by this injury.
