The Arizona Cardinals believe they have a connection that could dominate on the field for years to come in the one between quarterback Kyler Murray and young wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr.
Unfortunately, last year in Harrison Jr.’s rookie season, that connection failed to manifest itself on the field the way the franchise hoped, with both players having an up-and-down year and the Cardinals failing to qualify for the playoffs.
The hope is that this season everything will come together for the pair, but Thursday’s joint practice session with the Denver Broncos did not indicate things were tracking that way, per one prominent insider.
“It’s a story of two offenses here in Denver. Box Nix and his wide receivers in complete lockstep. Whereas Kyler Murray is going almost exclusively to Trey McBride,” reported Johnny Venerable.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“Kyler Murray’s reception leader by season has always been a slot or TE with the exception of Deandre Hopkins. Not sure we will ever get the 100+ catch outside receiver season we all want. And that pains me to say because I love MHJ. For the record, I hope I’m wrong,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Every report says that McBride is wide open and dominating, I’d throw it to him all the time as well. Meanwhile you’re seeing reports that the receivers are getting schemed open on the other side,” another fan added.
“Here comes the Kyler haters assuming he not getting marv the ball what if its just him not open or how the offense is ran or maybe trey just always open,” one fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see if the connection develops this season or if the pair ends up as a major “what if.”
