Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Russell Gage will miss the 2023 season after injuring his knee in practice Wednesday, according to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.
Gage had to be carted off the field after suffering the knee injury in a non-contact situation in a joint practice with the New York Jets. He was visibly upset.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowles told reporters he knew right away the injury was “pretty bad.”
“We wish him the best,” Bowles said (via NFL.com). “I can tell by the way he was sitting on the truck that it’s probably something that happened pretty bad. Our hearts go out to him and we’ll see how it goes.”
It’s a big blow to the Bucs’ wide receiver depth heading into the season. The 27-year-old Gage caught 51 passes for 426 yards and five touchdowns last season.
NFL fans reacted to the news.
What the hell is in the water in Tampa Bay? Rays and Bucs have become infirmaries.
