Cleveland Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders was extremely impressive in his preseason debut against the Carolina Panthers, throwing for two touchdowns in limited action after being named the starter for the exhibition.

Unfortunately, all of Sanders’ positive momentum was halted by an injury suffered early on Wednesday.

Browns QB Shedeur Sanders injured his oblique in practice today, early on, and will be evaluated. That may take him out of the next preseason game — the latest in a string of Cleveland nagging QB injuries,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport initially.

Now, Rapoport is following up with a critical update.

From the #Browns: Further medical testing and examination on Shedeur Sanders revealed an oblique strain. He is considered day to day, won’t practice tomorrow and is unlikely to play in the game on Saturday.”

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“The NFL is likely saved from a very, VERY uncomfortable conversation if Shedeur balled out vs the defending champions’ defense,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“oof. This battle might make its way into the regular season,” someone else wrote.

“The saga of Cleveland’s QB situation continues,” another person added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Shedeur still has a legitimate shot to climb out of the fourth spot on the depth chart now.
