After serving as the starting quarterback of the San Francisco 49ers for the past two seasons, Brock Purdy is due for a new contract with the team. And while no deal is done yet, it sounds like the team is committed to doing whatever it takes to keep him for the foreseeable future.
San Francisco 49ers team owner Jed York confirmed that contract conversations are already underway between the team and Purdy and he made it clear that the team has decided they want Purdy to remain as their starting quarterback for quite some time.
“I know we want Brock here for a long, long time and I believe we will make that happen,” York said according to Josh Dubow of the Associated Press.
Purdy was the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, but he has since emerged as one of the top quarterbacks in the league.
After injuries to both Trey Lance and Jimmy Garoppolo during the 2022 season, Purdy was thrust into action for the Niners late in the season and he dominated, winning the first seven starts of his NFL career, which included two playoff games before an injury in the NFC Championship Game ended his season and the Niners’ playoff run.
Last season, Purdy picked up right where he left off and helped lead the 49ers to the Super Bowl, where they fell to the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime.
Though Purdy’s numbers were down this year and the Niners finished the season with a losing record, he has still proven himself and it’s clear that the team is ready to move on with him as their starter.
We’ll have to see what sort of contract Purdy gets from the team.
