It was never going to be easy for the Los Angeles Chargers to go to Allegiant Stadium on short rest and beat the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football.
After all, the Chargers were without quarterback Justin Herbert and forced to start Easton Stick, former North Dakota State Bison quarterback who had attempted just 25 pass attempts in his five-year NFL career, the majority of which came in last week’s loss to the Denver Broncos after Herbert went down the injury.
The odds were stacked against them from the start, but Las Vegas lost 3-0 to the Minnesota Vikings last week, it’s not as if they’re lighting the world ablaze.
Going into halftime Thursday, the Raiders led the Chargers 42-0.
Many seemed to think that the Chargers, who were 5-8 entering the game and are now without their starting quarterback for the rest of the season, simply have given up. Many also seem to think that Chargers head coach Brandon Staley is responsible for that as well.
Social media had plenty to say about Staley.
On the Thursday Night Football halftime show, analyst Richard Sherman said, “[The Chargers] should make history. They should fire [Brandon Staley] at halftime.”
ESPN’s Matt Miller asked, “So does Brandon Staley make it back onto the plane ride home or is this a tarmac situation?”
ESPN’s Damien Woody agreed, saying, “Brandon Staley getting left in Vegas after this drubbing.”
