The San Francisco 49ers are hungry to get back to the playoffs after they missed the postseason entirely last season after being decimated by injuries. San Francisco is hoping that this season, they’ll have a much better bill of health.
Unfortunately, it appears that the Niners still haven’t quite shaken the injury bug. Star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk tore his ACL on October 20th last season, and it’s appears as if he is set to start this season on the PUP list.
“Even though the timeline, everything being equal, might point toward, Hey, there’s a chance Week 1 — and there still might be a chance Week 1 — I think the feeling inside the organization has always been don’t take any chances, start him off on PUP when they report to training camp on July 22, and then more than likely, just have that carry over into the regular season,” Matt Maiocco of NBC Sports Bay Area reports said, according to 49erswebzone.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“He could be in a WC and the niners wouldn’t rule him out until 10 minutes to game time,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“If you start on PUP aren’t you out four weeks?” someone else wanted to know.
“Most overpaid player in the NFL,” another fan added.
It’ll be interesting to see when Aiyuk makes his debut for the Niners this season.
