The NFL trade deadline always brings with it a bunch of surprises, but it’s pretty rare to see a blockbuster trade quite like the one the Denver Broncos and Miami Dolphins just agreed to for linebacker Bradley Chubb.
According to ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, the Broncos are trading Chubb to the Dolphins “for a package that includes the 2023 first-round pick that Miami acquired from San Francisco.”
Schefter would later clarify the full terms, as Miami will also send over a 2024 4th-rounder and running back Chase Edmonds while the Broncos package up a 2025 fifth-rounder along with Chubb.
There has been a lot of chatter around NFL circles all week that Chubb’s time in Denver could be coming to an end. Schefter himself has been reporting for days that the Broncos have an offer that includes a first-round pick, which presumably is the one they eventually pulled the trigger on.
Per Schefter, the Dolphins will try to sign Chubb to a new deal.
Chubb is currently in the option year of his rookie deal, which was part of the reason the reeling Broncos felt like they might want to maximize his value, especially since they’re 3-5 and don’t seem likely to make a playoff run this season.
Meanwhile, the Dolphins get a huge defensive boost in Chubb as they try to keep pace in the competitive AFC East. At 5-3, they’re currently tied with the New York Jets in second place behind the Buffalo Bills, who are 6-1. And the New England Patriots aren’t that far behind at 4-4.
In his fifth NFL season, Chubb currently has 26 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, eight QB hits, and two forced fumbles in eight games. The NC State grad was named to the PFWA All-Rookie Team in 2018 and made the Pro Bowl in 2020.
It’s safe to say that there were some very strong reactions to this huge trade as soon as it was announced.
