When the NFL canceled Monday’s game between the Cincinnati Bengals and the Buffalo Bills, the league had to make some changes to its playoff format in an attempt to keep things fair between teams with different records. Those changes seemed to hurt Cincinnati more than any other team and the Bengals too weren’t happy about one particular part of the changes – and they made hilarious reference to it during a touchdown celebration on Sunday.
Part of the playoff seeding changes dictated that if the Bengals lost to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday afternoon, the two teams would have to flip a coin to determine which of them would receive home-field advantage in the playoffs, even though Cincinnati already won the division with the better record.
Bengals running back Joe Mixon expressed his heated frustration with the decision during the week, and when he scored on Sunday afternoon he let the league know about it again with a hilarious celebration.
After finding the end zone in the first quarter, Mixon pulled a coin out of his glove and flipped it while his teammates watched, in a clearly choreographed moment. Once the coin landed, the team kicked it, indicating that they weren’t going to be leaving home-field advantage to a coin flip anyway.
It was a hilarious celebration and it sure let the NFL know exactly how the Bengals felt about the rule changes.
