The Cincinnati Bengals came into the 2023 season as clear contenders to potentially represent that AFC in the Super Bowl this year. Thus far, they have clearly disappointed, and much of that stems from the poor play of injured star quarterback Joe Burrow.
The Bengals suffered perhaps the worst loss of the season thus far in Week 4, falling 27-3 to the Tennessee Titans in a game where their offense looked completely lifeless.
Burrow, who is clearly still dealing with a calf injury, struggled yet again in that game, throwing for just 165 yards in the loss.
Perhaps more worrying than their play on the field may be the frustration that is growing in the Bengals locker room, particularly coming from star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase.
It seems like Burrow is picking up on the team’s frustration, as he told reporters Wednesday that he addressed the team after their loss to Tennessee.
“You always have something to say, especially after a situation like that,” said Burrow when asked about some of his teammate’s comments. “Obviously I’ll keep that between us. I’ll keep that in the locker room. We put it to bed.”
While it’s obviously good to hear that Burrow addressed the frustrations of his teammates, the only thing that will truly “put them to bed” will be winning on the field in Week 5.
Burrow also spoke about the importance of winning this week, where he called the game a “must-win” for the morale in the locker room.
“We have to go and get a win on the road. Haven’t had a road win yet. We pride ourselves on the road, we need it for the morale in the locker room.”
