The NFL world was shocked and saddened on Saturday when news broke that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins had died after being hit by a truck.
The 24-year-old was in the mix for the Steelers’ quarterback depth chart as the franchise looks to replace longtime starting quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who retired after last season.
While tributes have poured in from all over the football world (as well as some not-as-kind words), Big Ben has shared a tribute of his own for a former teammate.
Roethlisberger’s sentiments seem to echo what so many others said about Haskins, in that he was someone who brought a lot of joy with him, wherever he went.
“He came to work every day with a smile on his face and energy and love in his heart,” Roethlisberger wrote. “I really enjoyed his passion and love for the game and wanting to learn and be the best. His smile and zeal for life will be missed!
“Wish we had more time together on this earth, but I will cherish the time and the laughs we had! I’ll say it again just like I told you to your face, I still wish I could throw the ball like you!! Love ya pal.”
Haskins and Ben were teammates for one season and while the former Ohio State star didn’t get to play in any games for the Steelers, he did see action in the preseason and suited up for one regular-season contest.
