The Chicago Bears are under new leadership. Former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson was brought in to bring out the full potential in former number one overall draft pick and Heisman trophy winner Caleb Williams.
Since taking over as head coach, Johnson has prioritized building depth on the offensive line so that Williams has a clean pocket, after an abnormally high number of sacks in his rookie season stunted his development.
Still, Johnson knows that he can’t neglect the other side of the ball, and the Bears have inked a major part of their defense to a major extension.
“Sources: The #Bears have paid another key piece of their defense. This time, they lock up LB TJ Edwards on a 2-year, $20M extension with $16.6M fully guaranteed,” reported NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport on Wednesday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“How does Poles do this. TJ Edwards is worth at least $15M a year. He gets 8.4M Guaranteed. Poles has a convince button in his office,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“Good! One of the better Linebackers in the league and somehow Poles got em for a good deal,” another fan added.
“our most consistent LB in these last two years, key piece to our success on the Defensive side (from the few times we looked good),” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see if Edward can live up to his extension.
