The Chicago Bears came into the season as a dark horse playoff contender for some in the NFC. Through two weeks, that has not come to fruition, as the team has looked inept in their first two games of the season. This led to Bears GM Ryan Poles addressing the media to discuss the poor start to the year.
The Bears offense has been a serious concern to start the season, as star quarterback Justin Fields has seemingly taken a step back.
While some Bears fans are seemingly worried about Fields and his development, Poles made it clear in a press conference on Thursday that he believes Fields will pick up his play throughout the season.
“Really everyone’s trying to figure out what’s going on?” Poles said of Fields. “In my opinion, you’ve got a young quarterback trying to figure it out, a guy who hasn’t had the cleanest start of his career, who last year with a roster had to put the team on the back, do some unbelievable things athletically.
“Now, he gets talent around him and has to figure and balance when to do those cool things athletically, when to lean on others, and that is sometimes a gray place to live in, and that takes time. That takes time on task for him to take that next step. Everyone’s on board helping him get into that place for him to be successful.”
Poles then also addressed the team as a whole, offering a critical analysis of their 0-2 start to the year.
“To hit it straight on, we have adversity right now. Slow start, 0-2, not where you want to be,” Poles told reporters. “We’ve dealt with life issues, we’ve dealt with injuries and that’s all real and that’s a part of what we do and what we’ve got to deal with. The beautiful thing about our philosophy here, our organization is we’re solution-oriented. We work together to find these solutions and solve our problems to get everything back on track.”
The Bears will look to turn things around in Week 3. Unfortunately, things will not get any easier for them on Sunday as they face off against the defending Super Bowl champions in the Kansas City Chiefs.
