The Chicago Bears are in a major period of transition. Last offseason, the Bears selected former USC Trojan and Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams with the first overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft.

This offseason, the Bears brought in former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson as the franchise’s next head coach in the hopes that he can maximize Williams’ potential the same way he did in Detroit for quarterback Jared Goff.

However, in a move that the franchise is hoping will bring some stability to the franchise in this period of transition, the Bears are anchoring down with one of their most important executives, according to one prominent insider.

“ESPN sources: the Bears and general manager Ryan Poles have reached agreement on a contract extension that ties him to Chicago for the next five years, through the 2029 season. Poles had two years remaining on his old deal, but now the Bears have him and new head coach Ben Johnson both under contract for a matching five seasons,” reported ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Fans reacted to the news on social media.

“I get why you want to lock down the guy who brought BJ to Chicago and invested in Caleb this offseason but idk if I’m fully sold on this. we’re still less than a year removed from being the laughingstock of the entire league,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“I pray this works out… but until I see at least 2 years in a row of playoffs or better I remain pessimistic,” someone else added.

“Every HC wants to be aligned with that GM they are working with, so this makes sense,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if Poles makes it through his contract.
