Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh refused to name a starting quarterback in the leadup to the team’s AFC Wild Card matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals. Harbaugh instead chose to name that starter shortly before kickoff on Sunday night.
However, sources informed NFL.com that the Ravens plan to play both backups—Tyler “Snoop” Huntley and Anthony Brown—in the wake of the injury to normal starter Lamar Jackson, who is currently dealing with a Grade 2 PCL sprain.
NFL legend Michael Vick told Jackson to “put a brace on it” and play, mentioning he played through an entire season with a sprained MCL. Jackson, however, remains out.
Sources told NFL.com that whoever starts at quarterback for the Ravens won’t matter as much as which package offensive coaches choose to deploy.
Huntley, for his part, is battling shoulder tendinitis and a wrist injury, but fully participated in Friday’s practice. Harbaugh said he was “hopeful” that Huntley would play, and the team refused to elevate quarterback Brett Hundley from the practice squad ahead of the game.
The Bengals host the Ravens at 8:15 p.m. Sunday night on NBC. Oddsmakers list Joe Burrow and the Bengals as eight-point favorites entering the primetime contest. The Ravens and Bengals split their regular season series, 1-1.
