The Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback competition between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones took a left turn when Richardson, who had been named the starter for the Colts’ first preseason game on Thursday, was quickly forced out of the game with a finger injury.
It was another brutal injury for a young quarterback whose career has come to be defined by them (and injuries). Now, the Colts are providing an official update on Richardson’s status moving forward, according to one prominent league insider.
“Colts QB Anthony Richardson. who was declared out last night with a finger injury, had all his X-rays come back clean and will be back on the practice field in the coming days, per source,” reported Jordan Schutlz on Friday.
Fans reacted to the news on social media.
“I can’t believe the Colts are still entertaining the idea of Anthony Richardson as a starting QB,” one fan wrote on Twitter.
“If I got hit that hard in a preseason game I would’ve said my finger hurt too,” another fan added.
“They shot his hand up with drugs and told him to lace them cleats,” someone else joked on Twitter.
It’ll be interesting to see if Richardson can come back from the injury and win the starting job.
