The Indianapolis Colts and head coach Shane Steichen have made their final decision on their starting quarterback for the 2025 season, after the offseason battle between Anthony Richardson and Daniel Jones, according to one promient league insider.

“A QB decision in Indy: Colts named Daniel Jones as their starting quarterback for their Sept. 7 regular-season opener vs. the Miami Dolphins,” reported ESPN’s senior NFL insider Adam Schefter.

Schefter continued with more reporting on the details of the situation.

“Colts HC Shane Steichen is not planning for this to be a short-term arrangement for Daniel Jones. ‘He’s the starting QB for the season, Steichen told reporters today. ‘I don’t want to have a short leash on that.’”

Now, thanks to his agent, we know how Richardson feels about the decision.

“Anthony Richardson’s agent on QB’s relationship with Colts, via (Stephen Holder): ‘Trust is a big factor, and that is, at best, questionable right now. Anthony came back and made the improvements in the areas he needed to improve. And by all accounts, he had a great camp,'” reported Underdog NFL.

Fans reacted to Richardson’s feelings on the matter on social media.

“Just cause he makes improvements he isn’t guaranteed a starting job in the NFL. I’m sure that’s what they wanted to see from him and asked from him. From all accounts, he needed to make big improvements. They weren’t enough. Simple as that,” one fan wrote on Twitter.

“Lmao he can’t read the defense he got hurt on the first drive how the hell you ain’t see dude coming took him like 8 seconds to get to you,” someone else added.

“He stinks, he can’t read a defense, and he’s the only QB ever to quit mid drive,” one fan added.

It’ll be interesting to see if this was Richardson’s last opportunity to be a starter in the league.
