NFL world mourns the sudden, tragic passing of Alex Collins

The world of professional football is dealing with an immense tragedy. Running back Alex Collins, who was in the NFL with the Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens and most recently in the USFL with the Memphis Showboats in 2023, has passed away.

Both the Ravens and Seahawks noted his passing on their team Twitter pages.

“With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins,” the Ravens said. “Always quick to greet everyone with a smile, he was a genuinely kind person who carried a special joy and passion wherever he went. May Alex be remembered for the light and love he brought to so many people in his life.”

“Absolutely heartbroken. Prayers are with the Collins family,” Seattle added.

The University of Arkansas, where Collins played in college, also noted his passing on the football program’s Twitter page.

“We are so saddened by the sudden and tragic passing of Alex Collins. He was a legendary Razorback and an even better person. His love for the Razorbacks and desire to be a Hog was undeniable. We will miss him greatly. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Kelli Masters, Collins’ agent, expressed her condolences.

“My heart is broken, and I am just at a loss. Alex you were so loved by so many. You impacted lives with your joy and positive, caring spirit…and that big smile. I was so honored to be your agent.”

Former teammates and opponents, as well as others in the NFL world, shared their grief and sent their best wishes to Collins and his loved ones.

The Seahawks drafted Collins out of Arkansas in the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft. He spent his rookie year in Seattle before playing the 2017 and 2018 seasons with the Ravens. He rejoined the Seahawks for the 2020 and 2021 seasons.

Collins would have turned 29 on August 26.
