The Jacksonville Jaguars and first year head coach Urban Meyer have their work cut out for them as they enter the 2021 NFL season. With the Jaguars possibly looking for offensive help to complement first overall pick Trevor Lawrence, one NFL insider is suggesting a certain wide receiver who appears unhappy with his current situation.
After Times-Picayune reporter Jeff Duncan reported that the New Orleans Saints were looking for potential trade options for a cornerback, specifically name-dropping the Jags’ C.J. Henderson, MMQB’s Albert Breer suggested that maybe the Jaguars would be interested in wideout Michael Thomas due to his connection with Meyer during his time at Ohio State.
There is a major caveat to this hypothetical which is that Thomas is currently recovering from ankle surgery and is going to be out for a period of time. This after Thomas reportedly held off until June to get his surgery instead of doing it right at the start of the offseason.
Now, after Thomas posted a cryptic tweet insinuating the Saints tried to damage his reputation and he saved theirs by being silent, it appears that this relationship is getting more and more contentious and the Jaguars might be an ideal trade partner.
That being said, even if the Jaguars will probably be able to get a top wide receiver for less than expected, they’ll probably need to give up more than just Henderson if they want a chance at Thomas. Despite that, because Michael Thomas is someone Urban Meyer knows and loves, maybe they’ll see him as someone they can get for cheap and bring him back to superstar status.
