Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe has quickly emerged as a riser on draft boards ahead of the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft. And naturally, someone who has had plenty of positive things to say about his former player is Alabama head coach Kalen DeBoer.
DeBoer only got one season with Milroe after taking over for legendary head coach Nick Saban in Tuscaloosa. And while the pairing had their ups and downs, Milroe did shine at times in DeBoer’s offense, particularly with his legs, scoring 20 rushing touchdowns last year.
Milroe has since had a great Senior Bowl week and a Pro Day where he shocked everyone by running an unofficial 4.37-second 40-yard dash, which is among the fastest times we have ever seen from someone at the quarterback position.
During an appearance on The Insiders on NFL Network, DeBoer discussed what he has been asked by NFL front offices and what he has told them about Milroe and his prospects for the NFL. Right away, DeBoer was quick to speak to Milroe’s talents, including his excellent speed for the quarterback position and his excellent arm.
“It continues to be the same,” said DeBoer. “The ball comes off his hand really well. I thought he threw with good accuracy again. He can throw to all levels of the field. The running piece speaks for itself. So much that he has shown on film over the last couple of years. He’s not just running to guys. He’s running through and by them. So that really didn’t surprise me as far as how he ran. The other stuff is just more verification in elements of some things under center. Just stuff that you maybe didn’t get to see as much. But he looked pretty comfortable.”
DeBoer knows Milroe as well as anyone outside of Nick Saban. So it’s not too surprising to see DeBoer being asked his opinion of Milroe as a player by NFL teams.
By the looks of it, DeBoer has only had positive things to say about Milroe. So it should be interesting to see where Milroe ends up landing in the 2025 NFL Draft come April.
