Adrian Peterson earned plenty of accolades during his legendary NFL career, including the 2012 NFL MVP Award.
Contrary to one auction company’s listings, Peterson says he is not selling that MVP trophy, or other prized memorabilia from his career.
Peterson released a video Wednesday disputing reports that he is selling the items, which had raised speculation he has financial troubles.
“I want to clarify recent rumors and media reports,” Peterson said in the video, shared on his Instagram page. “An estate sale company without my authorization included some of my trophies in a sale, despite clear instructions to leave personal items untouched.”
Peterson’s representative, Denise White, told TMZ Sports he hired TexMex Auctions to sell some items. However, the MVP trophy, his NFL Rookie of the Year trophy and other prized possessions were not supposed to be part of that agreement.
“I did not authorize the sale of my trophies and I will be taking legal action,” Peterson continued in the video. “Trusting the company without supervision was my mistake. We allowed them to go into several of our storage units with clear instructions. They clearly did something unlawful.
“I want to emphasize that I am financially stable and would never sell off my hard-earned trophies or personal sports items.”
Peterson rushed for 14,918 yards and 120 touchdowns in a 15-year career that ended in 2021. The Pro Football Hall of Fame awaits when he’s eligible. Hopefully, he can get this current situation resolved in court.
