The Pittsburgh Steelers signed former Super Bowl champion and four-time league MVP Aaron Rodgers this offseason in a splashy move designed to bring the franchise back into title contention after years of continued mediocrity.
Now that Rodgers has been around his new team some time, he’s letting the rest of the league know that he thinks his new team really has what it takes to be a special group this season.
“I’m talking about guys like Jaylen Warren and Kenny G, Connor Heyward, who does everything right and cares about it so much, and Darnell and Muth, and Brod stepping up and being the stud that he is.
“When those guys really tap in their power, and I think we’ve seen some growth with those guys, then we have the opportunity to be a special offense,” he said, according to Blitzburgh.
As highly as Rodgers thinks of his new offense, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin believes the team can have a special defense as well.
“We feel really good about the prospects of this group. We do,” Tomlin said. “We’ve got to write that story. We’ve got enough talent, we’ve got enough schematics to do big, big things. When I say big things, I’m talking about historic things.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Tomlin and Rodgers are right about the heights the Steelers can reach this season.
