Anyone lucky enough to intercept a pass thrown by Aaron Rodgers during his MVP seasons of 2020 and 2021 probably should have saved the ball. The 2022 season, though, hasn’t gone nearly as well. And those struggles showed up again on Monday night, when Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers were taking on the Los Angeles Rams.

With the Packers up 3-0 and across midfield late in the first quarter, Rodgers looked downfield and threw pass to Allen Lazard. It seemed like the play would work. Lazard found a soft spot between cornerback Jalen Ramsey and safety Taylor Rapp and was wide open. Only, it didn’t work. Rodgers badly overthrew Lazard and the ball fell into the waiting arms of Rapp.

Even the best players occasionally make mistakes. Rodgers, though, has seldom made this kind of mistake throughout his career. Or, at least before this season.

The interception to Rapp was Rodgers’ tenth of the year. He now has more picks in 2022 than he had in 2020 and 2021 — combined.

And that’s only part of it. Beginning with his first MVP season in 2011, Rodgers had 11 straight seasons with fewer than 10 interceptions. That streak was broken on Monday night.

The NFL world took notice of the latest pick.

Pro Football Talk: “What the hell was that, Aaron?

Skip Bayless: “I think Aaron Rodgers just air-mailed that one – nothing to do with ‘wrong page.'”

Warren Sharp (with accompanying video): “Rodgers to Lazard.”

Connie Carberg: “Wow look at that way overthrow interception on Aaron Rodgers with no pressure!”

Rob Demovsky: “Going back to the INT, Allen Lazard had 9.3 yards of separation when Aaron Rodgers released the ball per @NextGenStats . That’s the most wide open interception Rodgers has thrown in the NGS era (since 2016).”
