The Pittsburgh Steelers signed four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers this offseason, one of a series of front office moves aimed at ending the Steelers’ drought of playoff wins before it reaches a full decade.
However, there’s no guarantee the version of Rodgers the Steelers are getting is the same one that accumulated MVP awards with the Green Bay Packers, as he struggled last season with the New York Jets, leading new Jets head coach Aaron Glenn to inform him that his services were no longer needed in the Big Apple.
Now, one prominent Steelers insider is going in-depth on how Rodgers looked over training camp, and his words are quite surprising considering what we saw from Rodgers last season.
“All I can tell you is what I saw every day during practice at Saint Vincent College. Overall, I thought Aaron Rodgers looked in command and comfortable with the offense, and he was given only 1 day off over the course of 14 practices between July 24 and Aug. 12,” Bob Labriola said.
“Rodgers made some incredible throws, he moved around freely in buying time to make his throws, and he was as consistently on target as anyone I ever had seen in a training camp setting.
“And I also will point out that Rodgers wasn’t dinking and dunking to pad any ‘imaginary”‘camp stats; he was working the ball down the field and in the middle of the field against a secondary that’s going to show itself to be athletic and competitive this season. My opinion is that if the Steelers offense struggles early in the regular season it will be because of something other than the quarterback play.”
Fans reacted to the reporting on social media.
“Good take. Going to be a little different having 3 Tight ends and Metcalf as your receivers… hopefully we can have a steady running game to blend with the playaction nicely,” one Steeelers fan wrote on Twitter.
“Bob Labriola lol. I’d give more credence to Hillary Clinton’s take,” someone else added.
It’ll be interesting to see how Rodgers does in Week One against his former team, the Jets.
