Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers created headlines two weeks ago when he told The Pat McAfee Show that his teammates who “keep making mistakes” should be benched.
Rodgers later defended the remarks after Packers legend Greg Jennings took issue with him throwing his teammates under the bus.
The words now appear even more foreboding given Rodgers’ start Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Rodgers may still lead the Packers to victory, but it will be in spite of his decision-making to start the game.
“Aaron Rodgers said that guy making mistakes ‘shouldn’t be playing.’ Guess he’s gonna bench himself after this one,” The Comeback tweeted.
The second interception was thrown to the Lions’ first overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft, defensive lineman Aiden Hutchinson:
“The Lions get another goal line stop,” said the NFL’s official Twitter account.
Rodgers, for his part, even had trouble with the sideline phone in the first quarter:
“Live look at Aaron Rodgers, who is also struggling to connect with hanging up the phone today,” Ryan Wood said.
The game was tied midway through the first quarter. The Packers were 3.5-point favorites entering the game.
