The San Francisco 49ers fell just short of making the Super Bowl last season, losing in the NFC championship game to the Los Angeles Rams, who went on to win the Super Bowl.
Quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo was heavily criticized following the game for his performance, and it is believed that the team will be moving on from the two-time Super Bowl champion.
It’s unclear where Garoppolo will be playing next season. But according to reports from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, there are several teams interested in the veteran quarterback to be their starter next season.
We also did not have a timeline on when the 49ers would be looking to trade Garoppolo, but Schefter suggested that he will be traded sometime this month. He will reportedly soon be undergoing offseason surgery on his shoulder that he injured during the postseason.
While some would believe that surgery could keep some teams away from trading for Garoppolo, Schefter added that this will most likely not impact his trade status.
Fans on social media certainly feel different about that, as many have raised concern and believe that this surgery could potentially tank his trade value.
Lot of reasons not to trade significant value for Jimmy G, but his injury history is at the top of the list. https://t.co/cHAM8PieVF

Garoppolo’s toughness has never been in doubt. https://t.co/i89NPgiDcf

The guy is a walking cast. Why would anyone give up substantial draft capital? No wonder why the free agent QB market is getting looked at first. https://t.co/L01AIF22W9

Some hesitation here because of JG injury history and potential cost — both in picks and $$ to extend. Doesn't mean they wouldn't try to get him, does mean lots to consider. Could make the low-cost FA potentially w/a rookie avenue more desirable (if the HR route fails). https://t.co/CO5iUuUxhZ

Garoppolo has the mold of a game manager, which in the right situation could be very valuable to a team that is already set up with surrounding pieces. And he’s already shown that he can take a team into the playoffs, and was very nearly playing in his first Super Bowl as a starter this season. But there are those injury and production concerns with him. It will be interesting to see where he lands this offseason.
