The San Francisco 49ers were dealt a huge blow Sunday with the loss of running back Elijah Mitchell who was injured during their game against the Chicago Bears.
Mitchell appears to have hurt his knee and will not return for the game.
Mitchell made an impact on this game before the injury with six carries for 41 yards. The running back was expected to play a heavy role in the 49er’s offense this year, but that may be up in the air with his injury. More than likely we won’t know more about it until the end of the game, but it didn’t look good.
Other than Mitchell’s injury, neither offense has made a huge impact in the game, although Justin Fields and Trey Lance have both played well. The story in this game has been the defenses, which have held both of the offenses in check so far.
With Mitchell injured, the 49ers will have to rely again heavily on Deebo Samuel to carry the load in the backfield and hope and pray that the injury is not too series and he can return soon. Otherwise, Samuel might have to shoulder more than is healthy for the young star.
