The Wichita State Shockers softball team again stunned the No. 3 Oklahoma State Cowgirls, this time with an epic go-ahead home run.
The Shockers had defeated the Cowgirls earlier in the month, 8-7, on April 4. So the two teams had already exchanged pleasantries this season. They convened again in Stillwater but unfortunately for the Pokes; the result remained the same.
Wichita State stunned the third-ranked Cowgirls with an epic go-ahead home run. Sami Hood delivered the blast to send the Shockers in front.
“Hello, darkness, my old friend. That’s the sound of silence in Stillwater tonight,” the Wichita State Softball account boldly tweeted.
Wichita State continued to trash-talk the Cowgirls on Twitter. The Shockers posted, “Deuces, STILL_ATER,” literally “taking the ‘W'” from Oklahoma State in Stillwater. Cold!
The Shockers, nationally ranked, have pieced together a quality season. They rank 21st in the RPI with a 37-8 record. The Shockers have posted a 19-4 record at home, 8-1 in neutral-site games, and a strong 10-3 record on the road. They’re the highest-ranked American Athletic Conference in the RPI.
Oklahoma State’s only recorded three losses all season at home, so this was a mighty impressive victory by the Shockers. Oklahoma State fell to 39-5 on the year. They still stand as one of the best college softball teams in the nation. As they reminded me on Tuesday, don’t forget about the Shockers.
