An early candidate for Game of the Year in college basketball ended when Frank Mason III nailed a mid-range jumper with 1.8 seconds left to lead No. 7 Kansas over No. 1 Duke on Wednesday.

The game, part of the Champions Classic, certainly did not disappoint. Kansas was down five at halftime, then rallied to take a 10-point lead with just over eight minutes to play, before letting Duke back into it. On the possession before Mason’s winner, Duke’s Frank Jackson hit a game-tying three.

And so, just like that, the No. 1 team in the nation is unseated less than a week into the season. You’ve gotta love college basketball.

As you might expect, Mason got a hero’s welcome when he returned to the locker room after his big shot.
