It appeared the Utah Utes had a fantastic large guy pick-six when 301-pound defensive tackle Pita Tonga picked off Washington quarterback Jake Browning early in the fourth quarter Saturday night in Salt Lake City.
But Tonga fumbled the ball out of bounds, untouched, at the 11-yard line.
Still, Utah had great field position and an excellent chance to get a touchdown. But the Utes were left with a 4th-and-1 inside the 2-yard line, and that play would end up being about as painful as the fumbled interception.
Utah got quarterback Tyler Huntley on the move after a play-action, and he found a wide-open Connor Haller on a short pass. That resulted in a brutal drop:
Utah came away with zero points after two incredibly easy touchdown opportunities. You’re not going to be the No. 10 team in the country that way.
