It may only be Week 1 of the college football season, but there have already been some great highlights, from Texas Tech receiver T.J. Vasher’s one-handed grab to Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray’s remarkable scrambling. Well, add UNLV safety Evan Austrie to the list of individuals who stood out. In the Rebels’ game against USC Saturday, Austrie came up with an incredible play to pick up 36 yards on a fake punt.
That’s a nicely-drawn up fake punt, with the snap going to a different player who hands off to Austrie moving the other way. The other blockers also do well to quickly create a hole for Austrie there, and he then uses his speed to outdistance one would-be tackle and then cuts it outside to add even more yardage. That’s very well done by UNLV and Austrie.
