In this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes and UConn women’s basketball.
The Huskies defeated the Syracuse Orange 82-51 on Tuesday night to take home their fourth-consecutive national championship and 11th overall. With the victory, UConn joins the UCLA Bruins men’s basketball program as the only two to ever win four championships in a row. However, head coach Geno Auriemma’s 11th National Title puts him past the architect of those UCLA teams, John Wooden.
The Huskies also finish the season a perfect 38-0 and are now on a 75-game winning streak that dates back to 2014.

Breanna Stewart came to UConn four years ago, from Syracuse, NY incidentally, with a goal of winning four national titles, a goal she completed on Tuesday. Her senior class also finishes 24-0 in NCAA Tournament games. Stewart was named most outstanding player of the Final Four afterward.
While the Orange had looked good in their Final Four win over Washington, there’s a difference between the game every other women’s program and the UConn program. Losing by 31 points to them isn’t shocking, it’s expected.
Even so, their domination can be shocking to watch in person. Something that Syracuse legend Donovan McNabb witnessed first-hand.

Stewart’s class now moves on, most of them to the WNBA, and leaves a void for the rest of the UConn basketball team to fill. Given the Huskies’ recruiting prowess and ability to constantly reload, we’re not all that worried about them.
