Three weeks ago, 64 college baseball teams set off on a journey to try and advance to the Men’s College World Series final in Omaha.
Over that stretch, 62 teams have been eliminated from the 2o24 NCAA baseball tournament, and we now know our World Series matchup.
The 2024 Men’s College World Series final will feature the Texas A&M Aggies facing off against the Tennessee Volunteers, an SEC foe. This is the second straight All-SEC Men’s College World Series final and third in four years. It will also be the conference’s fifth straight national championship.
It will also mark a major milestone for fans of both teams, as Texas A&M has never made it to the Men’s College World Series final in their previous seven tournament appearances in school history, while Tennessee’s last appearance was in 1951 when they lost to the Oklahoma Sooners, so, either way, one school will come away with their first-ever championship.
Tennessee went 3-0 in the double-elimination portion of the Men’s College World Series, picking up a pair of wins over the Florida State Seminoles and a win over the North Carolina Tar Heels to punch their ticket to the final. Texas A&M also went 3-0, picking up wins over a pair of SEC rivals, the Florida Gators (twice) and Kentucky Wildcats.
Tennessee and Texas A&M didn’t face off in the regular season, but the SEC Tournament saw Tennessee pick up a 7-4 win over the Aggies in an elimination game to get back in the winners’ bracket. The Volunteers would go on to win the SEC Tournament.
Social media had a lot to say about the matchup.
