South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer got doused in mayonnaise following his team’s win over North Carolina in the Mayo Bowl. That’s a sentence that only makes sense if you follow college football.
College football fans have been hoping for a while now that the winner of the Duke’s Mayo Bowl would end up getting covered in mayo as a “prize” for their victory. That hope became a reality earlier this week when the bowl made it official.
Both Beamer and North Carolina’s Mack Brown said they were ready and willing to do whatever it took to garner the coveted mayo-soaked victory, though one clearly seemed more up for it than the other.
We learned before Thursday’s game that the mayo dump was on and happening after the game.

And while the football game itself was important, preparations for the day’s main event took precedent.

Along the way, we were treated to some mayo-doused treats courtesy of ESPN’s Anish Shroff and Mike Golic, Jr.
Sure enough, as the clock ticked down and the Gamecocks completed their 38-21 victory, the stage was set.
And then, it happened. And it was worth the hype (and a small concussion, it seems)
And when the moment everyone was waiting for finally happened, the college football world rejoiced in celebration (well, except for Dennis Dodd).

Congrats to everyone involved and especially to the marketing folks over at Duke’s Mayo. You earned your paychecks this year. Good luck topping that, Taxslayer.
