After back-to-back losses to seemingly inferior opponents to start the season, Nebraska is finally making a change at head coach, firing Scott Frost after just over four seasons leading the program.
Nebraska Director of Athletics Trev Alberts announced the move to fire Frost in a statement on Sunday afternoon.
“Earlier today I met with Coach Frost and informed him we were making a change in the leadership of our football program, effective immediately,” Alberts said in the statement. “Scott has poured his heart and soul into the Nebraska Football program both as a quarterback and head coach, and I appreciate his work and dedication.”
Alberts explained that the decision comes after Nebraska’s first two losses to start the season – the blown lead against Northwestern in Ireland to start the season followed by Saturday’s upset loss to Georgia Southern.
“After the disappointing start to our season, I decided the best plan forward for our program was to make a change in our head coaching position,” Alberts said. “Associate Head Coach Mickey Joseph will serve as our interim head coach for the remainder of the 2022 season.”
The big move caused quite a few reactions in the college football world.

Nebraska fires Scott Frost. Didn't even wait until October 1, when his buyout would be $7.5 million cheaper. In the past this would've been a very attractive job for lots of coaches, NFL and college. Now? I'm not sure who wants it. https://t.co/tDMlKfxGzm

It had to happen, but I'd venture to say it should have happened last year.
