Oklahoma Sooners softball is serious business, and it’s not uncommon for people to skip out on work in order to watch the defending national champions play.
That’s a bit harder for young kids who have to attend school.
However, a couple of young Sooner fans came up with a pretty fun way to deal with that and it’s gone viral.
The Oklahoma Softball Twitter account shared a photo Tuesday of head coach Patty Gasso with a couple of young girls at their game. The girls are holding a large cardboard sign that includes a “school note” that would give the girls permission to miss school so they could attend the Oklahoma-LSU game that evening.
Coach Gasso signed the “permission slip.”
Oklahoma fans and the softball world loved the viral moment.

The Sooners won the game, 3-0, and improved to 37-1 overall. They also extended their nation-best win streak to 29 and improved their record vs. SEC teams in 2023 to 8-0. No. 1 Oklahoma also moved its record to 14-0 vs. ranked opponents in 2023 with the win over No. 13 LSU.
Gasso is a pretty good role model to consider if you’re a young Oklahoma softball fan. In 28 seasons at the helm, she’s won six national championships, winning in 2000, 2013, 2016, 2017, 2021, and 2022.
