What an ending! Notre Dame just knocked off UConn in dramatic fashion on Friday, in large part thanks to an Arike Ogunbowale three at the end of the second half. Now, Ogunbowale delivered again, this time drilling a beautiful rainbow to beat Mississippi State 61-58.
Take a look:
That’s one of the best endings to a college championship game ever.
The announcer cam added another fun view:
The victory was even more improbable given how thoroughly Notre Dame was outplayed in the second quarter, as the Irish were outscored 13-3 en route to a 30-17 halftime deficit. They trailed by 15 in the second half, and by five with just two minutes to go, before closing the game on an 8-0 run.
Ogunbowale hadn’t had a fantastic game to that point; she finished with 18 points but was just 6-21 from the floor. But when that’s the final one, it’s all that matters. Kobe was definitely impressed.
What a Final Four for Notre Dame, and what an even more amazing Final Four for Ogunbawale, who’s only a junior. But whatever she does next year, she’s already cemented her spot in NCAA Tournament history.
