Michigan State University announced on Monday that head basketball coach Tom Izzo has tested positive for COVID-19. The school released a statement from Izzo, in which he said that he has “some minor symptoms,” but remains “in good health.”
Izzo added, “You’d be hard pressed to find a coach who’s taken more precautions than I have, following all the protocols put in place by our medical team, and yet I have still contracted the virus.”
And he concluded the statement with, “I’m proof that no one is immune, but I still believe that there are steps everyone can take to reduce their chances of contracting the virus.”
Izzo, 65, has won a national championship and reached the Final Four eight times as Michigan State’s head coach. He was inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in 2016.
Michigan State is currently ranked 13th in the AP poll ahead of the 2020-21 college basketball season.
This news comes on the same day that the United States surpassed 10 million COVID-19 cases.
