After a promise he made almost 30 years ago, Jerome Bettis, a.k.a. “The Bus,” has finally graduated from Notre Dame.
Bettis tweeted about his accomplishments on Thursday.
“A promise made, a promise kept,” The Bus wrote. “28 years after leaving Notre Dame, I’ve completed my degree from the Mendoza School of Business. I hope my journey serves as [a] reminder that education is the true equalizer in life and it is never too late to start.”
A lot of NFL superstars are making similar efforts to go back to school to get their degrees. Bettis joins a long list of NFL athletes who came back years later, such as Landon Collins, who just announced he graduated from the University of Alabama, and Joe Namath, who also returned to receive his degree from Alabama.
Bettis received high praise for his accomplishment.
Baltimore Ravens tackle Ronnie Stanley also offered his congratulations.
Everyone from NFL athletes to sports media members continued to congratulate The Bus.
Fellow Notre Dame graduate Mike Golic also gave his congratulations as well.
Despite only one out of 10 college athletes going pro, the NFL has a relatively high graduation rate amongst athletes. According to the NFL, 46 percent of its players are college graduates. And that is something the NFL should be proud of.
