The James Madison Dukes pulled off an upset on Tuesday over the 2019 NCAA Tournament champions. James Madison — a five-point underdog — beat the Virginia Cavaliers 52-49 in Harrisonburg, VA.
On the final play, Virginia’s Armaan Franklin missed a half-court heave that would’ve tied the game. James Madison students went wild and rushed the floor.

It’s James Madison’s first-ever win over Virginia after losing in the previous 11 tries.
The crowd deserves an assist as the sixth man, providing the highest attendance for a basketball game in James Madison history.
James Madison improves to 8-2 on the season, while Virginia is now a disappointing 6-4. The Cavaliers are completely lacking firepower on offense, and currently are dead last in the country (out of 358 schools) in KenPom’s adjusted tempo metric. James Madison held Virginia to 38% shooting from the field and 15.4% (4-of-26) on three-point shooting.
