Saturday’s Division 1 Hockey National Championship Game between the Quinnipiac Bobcats and the Minnesota Golden Gophers. It was a close game throughout, going to overtime which led to an absolutely insane finish.
The game finished regulation in a 2-2 tie. However, Quinnipiac didn’t waste any time to capitalize on an early opportunity at the start of overtime.
Quinnipiac won the face-off to begin the overtime period. They then quickly moved the puck into the offensive zone with a terrific pass.
Another terrific pass was made to set up an unbelievable look for Quinnipiac’s Jacob Quillan. It was too good of a look for him to miss, and he capitalized when it mattered most.
Quillan would score the goal only ten seconds into the period, absolutely stunning viewers in attendance in a wild ending to the National Championship.
This win is a historic one for Quinnipiac. This is the first time that the program has ever won a National Championship.
It was certainly shocking to see a goal this quickly in overtime. Many took to social media to praise the Bobcats for this unbelievable victory.
It is surely a moment that they will never forget, and they did it against all odds. This game was one that Minnesota dominated in the early going, leading 2-0 midway through the second period. They only tied up the game with three minutes remaining in the final period in regulation.
