The Georgetown Hoyas have been a disaster this season under head coach Patrick Ewing, going winless so far in Big East conference play amidst a 19 game losing streak, which is by far the longest losing streak in the history of the program.
This has led to a ton of criticism and questions surrounding the future of Ewing’s tenure as head coach. It seems that the fans and media have more concerns than the program. Athletic Director Lee Reed released a statement supporting Ewing on Wednesday, as well as saying he has confidence in him moving forward.
Ewing backed up Reed’s statement, posting this message on social media further hinting that he plans to be back as head coach next season.
“Any announcement about my future will come from me or Georgetown University. First and foremost, I am not a quitter. My plan is to be back next year coaching at my alma mater and bringing this program back to prominence.”
This led to a number of Georgetown fans being excited in the vote of confidence that Ewing has for himself and the program moving forward.
While it’s great that Ewing is confident in the program going forward, it’s certainly far from happy times for Georgetown fans.
Aside from one miraculous run in the Big East tournament last season, Georgetown has been below-average at best under Ewing’s five-year tenure as head coach.
There’s a ton of work that needs to be done within the program, and it remains to be seen whether or not Ewing will be the man to bring them back to prominence like he claims he will.
