Perhaps it runs in the family.
Tom Brady’s niece, Maya, was honored in a huge way over the weekend.
Maya, a redshirt junior utility for the UCLA Bruins, was honored as the Pac-12’s 2023 regular season batting champion. She put together a wildly impressive season, as she led the conference with a .456 batting average, which also ranks top-10 in the NCAA.
Playing in 53 games for the Bruins this season, Maya slugged a career-high 16 home runs with 53 RBIs. She recorded 72 hits in 158 at-bats, which means she recorded a hit in 45 percent of her plate appearances on the season. Along with her impressive average, Maya had a .519 on-base percentage and a .873 slugging percentage.
Maya also ranked top-10 in the country in hits, slugging percentage, and RBIs, while ranking top-5 in the nation in total bases.
If that wasn’t enough, she broke a 24-year-old UCLA record with 11 consecutive base hits from Feb. 10-12, 2023. Maya ranks third on UCLA’s career slugging percentage list (.739) and she is the seventh player in the history of the program to have five multi-home run games in their career.
The sports world reacted as yet another Brady put together a significant offensive season. And one could argue that Maya put together a better season than her uncle, who recently retired after a Hall of Fame career in the NFL.
