Former Arizona State three-year starting quarterback Jayden Daniels entered the transfer portal in February, and on Sunday, he picked his new school.
Daniels has officially committed to play college football at LSU, the school announced in a statement.
Here’s what LSU head coach Brian Kelly had to say about adding Daniels:
“Jayden is an outstanding player who will make our quarterback room even stronger,” Kelly said. “He’s a playmaker with a strong arm and the ability to make plays with his feet. We are excited to welcome Jayden to our program as we continue to build a roster of student-athletes who will compete for championships on the field and work just as hard in the classroom to earn their degree.”
Daniels posted on Instagram, “GEAUX TIGERS.”
He’s expected to compete with Myles Brennan (redshirt senior), Garrett Nussmeier (redshirt freshman), and Walker Howard (incoming freshman) for the LSU starting quarterback position.
The 21-year-old was sensational as a freshman at ASU, throwing for 17 touchdowns, just two interceptions, and 2,943 yards (8.7 AVG). Daniels threw for 22 touchdowns and three interceptions combined over his first two seasons.
However, in 2021, Daniels struggled as a passer, with 10 touchdowns and 10 interceptions (but he did have a career-best completion percentage of 65.4). He was at least a big weapon in the rushing game, with 710 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.
It will be interesting to see if LSU can get the 2019-20 passing production from Daniels, but they’re at least getting a dynamic dual-threat talent regardless.
