There were conflicting reports on Friday about Oregon potentially hiring Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning as head football coach, after Miami hired Mario Cristobal away from Oregon earlier in the week.
Well, a day later, Oregon has officially hired Lanning. Reports emerged that a deal was done on Saturday afternoon, and Oregon made the news official on Saturday evening.
Lanning, 35, has served as coordinator — and outside linebackers coach — for a Georgia defense that has been college football’s best over the last three seasons.
He’s set to be the third-youngest head coach in the FBS next season. He played linebacker at William Jewell College (Missouri) from 2004-07.
