It was already known to be in the works, and on Wednesday night, Michigan State head football coach Mel Tucker officially agreed to a massive contract extension with the Spartans.
Tucker signed a 10-year, $95 million contract extension to remain with Michigan State. The school announced the news on Wednesday night:
“Tucker’s contract includes non-performance related compensation of $9.5 million per year, including a $5.9 million base, $3.2 million in supplemental compensation for media and personal appearances, plus a $400,000 contingent annual bonus. The contract expires on January 15, 2032.”
Tucker released a statement on the news:

And here’s reaction from Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo:
At $9.5 million per season, Tucker is only behind Alabama head coach Nick Saban ($9.7 million) in average annual value.
The timing is a bit funny, with Ohio State crushing Michigan State 56-7 this past weekend. But Tucker has led the Spartans to a surprising 9-2 record in his second season.
Here’s how the college football world reacted to the Tucker extension:
James Franklin and Mel Tucker will meet on Saturday to validate the entirety of their respective deals over the result of one game. https://t.co/bF7Z70lG2h

What type of success justifies the Mel Tucker contract? Multiple playoff appearances and 2-3 Big Ten Titles? Or does MSU have to win it all?

FULLY GUARANTEED?!?!?!
LOOOOOLOLOLOLOLOLOOOOLOLOL.
Good luck with that Mitten State. That would be, as of next season, the highest fully guaranteed contract in the HISTORY OF COLLEGE FOOTBALL.

Fresh off a 56-7 loss to division rival, and with a 16-14 overall head coaching record, Mel Tucker becomes the second highest paid college football coach. #CFBPlayoff #MichiganState https://t.co/QyvwSqRPdL

Colorado is 4-7, about to get trucked by Utah, and watching Mel Tucker sign a 10 year contract. Thoughts and prayers.
