The Baylor program is still dealing with the fallout from a massive sexual assault scandal, including a lawsuit accusing Bears’ players of committing 52 acts of rape in four years, and the new regime of head coach Matt Rhule isn’t exactly inspiring a lot of confidence that the school has improved. The assistant strength coach Rhule hired, Brandon Washington, was fired last month after being arrested in a prostitution sting, and now Baylor has fired another Rhule hire.

KWTX 10 (the Waco CBS affiliate) reported Monday night that associate director for football operations DeMarkco Butler has been fired. Butler, who was just hired last month, was reportedly let go for inappropriate texts to a teenager:

News 10 learned Monday the university dismissed DeMarkco Butler, the Associate Director for Football Operations, over inappropriate text messages.

Butler was just hired by the university last month.

While Butler was let go because of inappropriate texts to a teenager, a school official indicated they were sent to an individual who was an adult under Texas statute.

Here’s the KTWK video report on the situation:

With these texts being to an adult under Texas law (someone who’s at least 17), this may not lead to any criminal charges for Butler, but that’s still definitely not behavior Baylor wants from their football staff as they try to clear their reputation. It’s quite understandable why they let Butler go. However, this is still one more mark against the school’s already-smeared reputation, and one more indication that all the problematic behavior at the school hasn’t gone away.
