On September 3rd, Blake Barnett started for the University of Alabama in its 2016 opener against USC. Less than a month later, the quarterback is reportedly transferring.
During the Tide’s 52-6 beatdown of the Trojans, Barnett went 5-for-6 on passing attempts for 100 yards and one touchdown.
The redshirt freshman has appeared in three of Alabama’s four games this year, but has never attempted more than seven passes in a game. Despite taking snaps for the #1 team in the country, Barnett is reportedly transferring according to AL.com.
Barnett was taken out of the first game for freshman Jalen Hurts, who he has been backing up since. Over the three games he’s played in, Barnett is 11-for-19 passing with 219 yards and two touchdowns.
The 6’5″, 211-pounder is from Corona, California and was the #14 player in ESPN’s 2015 Top 300 college football recruiting class. Barnett was also ranked the best QB in his class.
Before signing on with Alabama in high school, Barnett also received offers from Arizona, California, Colorado, Duke, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, and West Virginia.
Barnett and Alabama haven’t officially announced the QB’s transfer, which means it isn’t clear what school Barnett will play at next.
