The Deputy Athletic Director at the University of Alabama was arrested over the weekend on a domestic violence charge. Authorities in Tuscaloosa charged Matthew Travis Self with a third-degree domestic violence charge after an alleged incident over the weekend.

According to Patch.com, the Tuscaloosa Police Department informed the publication “that officers were called at 12:10 a.m. Sunday morning to a residence on Gaineswood Lane on a report of a domestic violence incident.” Patch.com reported that nothing else was detailed about the phone call.

According to the report, authorities charged Self with a third-degree domestic violence charge. He was put on a 24-hour hold for his crime, and the bond was $300.

The University issued a statement on the matter. It read, via Patch.com, “Alabama Athletics is aware of this incident. We take such matters seriously and will continue to gather more information to address this personnel matter.”

Thus far, no decision has been made on his status with the University. Although, expecting one to happen soon isn’t out of the question. The program has dealt with many horrible issues over the last few months.

Self is a 45-year-old who has been with the Alabama athletics program since 2008.
