Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has already cemented himself as one of the best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL, but his broadcasting career is not quite off to a great start.
Brees started his first year at NBC last season following his retirement, working as an NFL analyst on NBC’s Football Night in America studio show as well as calling Notre Dame football games on the network.
It appears that Brees’s tenure with the network has come to an end, according to NY Post’s Andrew Marchand. Marchand added that the decision came as a mutual one, saying that Brees preferred calling games rather than working in the studio.
This news certainly has garnered a ton of reactions around the sports world, with many having mixed reactions.
Some felt that while Brees certainly has an excellent mind for football, maybe his best work is not as a broadcaster going forward.
The trouble for Drew is his personality is not “loose and adjust on fly and improve” it’s “I will practice this till it’s perfect” which isn’t how good tv works https://t.co/5bZ51cerwY

Not surprising after all the bad reviews of his call of that Bengals Raiders playoff game. https://t.co/Vp3AOChrRF

Others seem to believe that a change of scenery could help Brees going forward and still have hope that he can stick on as a full-time broadcaster.
He will find the right fit. Always rooting for @drewbrees.

Most of the criticism that surrounds Brees as a broadcaster centers around his performance during the Wild Card matchup last season between the Las Vegas Raiders and Cincinnati Bengals, where many said that they felt he had very little to say throughout the game.
NBC will now have to fill two different roles, both on Football Night in America and on NBC’s coverage of Notre Dame football games.
It remains to be seen whether or not Brees will latch on to another network in another role, but if his NFL career is any indication, he will land on his feet and find his niche after football, whether or not it involves broadcasting.
